Captain Haddock & Bianca Castafiore in Lake Coniston

This time we are visiting Lake Coniston, made famous by Donald Campbell in his fatal attempt in jet powered Bluebird K7 at breaking his own world water speed record in 1967.  He was travelling at more than 300 mph aged only 46.

48 years later Peter Shores, aged 55, with co-pilot Debbie sped off at 3 mph in an anonymous electric powered boat – £30 for the hour – in glorious sunshine and arrived back safely without a scratch…

“Blistering barnacles!”  I can hear you say…

An hour or so later heedless of further danger we drove back to Ambleside and took “the Struggle” on the way to Ulswater, what a fantastic journey, so glad we had our new baby Land Rover…

Another great day! 😀
