Strange isn’t it? I’m up in the den as I write this blog listening to “Moonchild” by King Crimson. I first heard this album back in 1980 in fellow student Richard Glemberg’s council flat in Bromley by Bow.
Richard, like me, was born in Yorkshire, but West not East! He was studying mathematics for his undergraduate degree and he was very clever but alas cancer intervened and he had to have emergency surgery and then underwent chemotherapy and lost all his hair.
I’ve never forgotten being in his flat listening to this album (I bought a modern vinyl copy last year) and I’ve often wondered what happened to him. I did some searching on the internet and found he’d released Maths CD ROMs for schools as part of a business venture while still living in East London, alas not managed to get back in touch by social media yet.
“I talk to the Wind” is quite apt right now as the rain is fair “tamping down”, as they say in Wales…..
Just heard the news today that Leonard Cohen has died aged 82. Richard had his album with “Avalanche” being our favourite track. Makes you think that this was 36 years ago when Leonard was only 45! Funnily enough in the den upstairs I have this album out as I was only listening to it on Wednesday…
